Yankee Maid, a 56-foot wooden seiner vessel, sank near Hoonah on Sunday after hitting a rock.

There were five people on board who went into the water, according to Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Travis Magee. Good samaritan vessels in the area rescued all five individuals and transferred them back to shore.

"The Coast Guard, we issued an urgent marine information broadcast to notify vessels in the area once we received that report and then we also launched a boat crew from Station Juneau," Magee said.

The boat crew returned back to Station Juneau once they heard that the individuals on board the Yankee Maid had been transported safely back to shore.

Magee also noted that the wreck has been marked with a buoy.
