Transparency and Financial Support
The Juneau Independent is committed to transparency in all aspects of our organization's funding.
Accepting financial support does not mean we endorse the donors or their products, services or opinions.
We accept gifts, grants and sponsorships from individuals, organizations and foundations to support our general operations, issue coverage and special projects. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization operating as a public trust, we do not pay certain taxes. We may receive funding from standard government programs offered to nonprofits or similar businesses.
Our news judgments are made independently, not based on or influenced by donors or any revenue stream. We do not give supporters the right to assign, review or edit content.
We do not endorse candidates. We do accept advertising and on a case-by-case basis, with clear labeling so the source of the content is clear.
As a nonprofit news organization, we do not accept donations from government agencies or political parties. As a nonprofit news source operating in the public interest, we disclose the names of all corporate and philanthropic donors and supporters. We disclose the names of private individuals who give more than $5,000 annually.
We will not accept donations from sources that our board of directors determines present a conflict of interest with our work or compromise our independence.
