Sunday victory gives Juneau seven-game win streak, top league standing

Juneau’s Auke Bay Post 25 American Legion baseball team won its final home series game against East Post 34 on Sunday at Adair Kennedy Memorial Park field, in an 11-1 run-rule shortened five-inning performance. Auke Bay also defeated East 12-2 on Friday, and 9-5 and 10-0 on Saturday, and now have a seven-game win streak and top league standing with four road games remaining.


Drew Cadigan-McAdoo earned the win on Sunday, allowing just one hit and one run over four innings pitched while striking out five batters and walking four. Isaac Kirsch returned from a baseball camp to pitch relief and close for one inning, walking one batter and striking out one.


Noah Lewis led Auke Bay bats with two hits (3 runs scored, 1 run batted in, 1 walk). Parker Katasse (1 R, 1 RBI), Brenner Harralston (1 R, 2 BB), Cadigan-McAdoo (1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB), Kirsch (1 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB) and Keaton Belcourt (1 R) had one hit each. Zev LeVine (2 R, 1 RBI, 2 BB), Ayden Bergmann (1 R, 2 BB), Bode Winkelman (1 RBI) and Marcus Mendoza (1 BB) made appearances on the bases. Lewis stole three bases, Katasse and LeVine one apiece.

Auke Bay scored two runs in the first inning, five in the second inning, two in the third inning and closed out the game with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.


Cadigan-McAdoo had six putouts, LeVine, Belcourt and Harralston two each, Micah Nelson, Noah Lewis and Jacob Katasse one each. Belcourt, Kirsch and Winkelman fielded balls to throw out batters.


East Post 34 third baseman Andy Rust had one hit and one RBI, Reed Wirschem scored one run, Yeralvin Ramirez, Chase Dumas, Reed Wirschem, Owen Butcher and Keagan Oscar earned one walk each.

Auke Bay ends the regular season on the road with league games against Dimond (Thursday, July 16), Wasilla (Friday, July 17), Kenai (Saturday, July 18), Chena River (Sunday, July 19) and a non-league game in Anchorage against Ketchikan (Sunday, July 19).


The top eight teams of the 14-team AA standings advance to the Alaska Legion Baseball AA 74th State Tournament at Anchorage’s Mulcahy Stadium, July 25-30. The AA All-Star game is July 31 at Mulcahy. The winner of the state tournament advances to play in the Northwest Regional at Medford, Oregon on August 5-9. The NWR winner advances to the Legion World Series at Shelby, North Carolina, August 13-18.
