A man is in good condition after being rescued from a single-engine plane that went down and was found overturned near Haines on Sunday morning, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
A signal from the plane’s Emergency Locator Transmitter when it was in the Chilkat mountains about 35 miles south of Haines was received at about 8:30 a.m. by the Coast Guard Arctic District Command Center in Juneau, according to a press release.
"Personnel at Haines Airport reported the aircraft, a two-seat single engine airplane, had departed earlier that morning but had not returned," the release states.
An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and crew was dispatched from Coast Guard Air Station Sitka to search for the plane, according to the release. The crew spotted it at about 10:25 a.m. near the Endicott River.
"The helicopter crew landed near the plane and safely transferred the pilot, the sole occupant of the plane, to the helicopter with no reported injuries," the release states. "The aircrew transported him to Juneau in good condition."
