Residents interested in the design and future of the Aurora Harbor Drive Down float can participate in an upcoming public meeting hosted by the City & Borough of Juneau (CBJ) Docks and Harbors Department. The public presentation and Q&A will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 15 at the Juneau Yacht Club.
This project will construct a new drive-down float in downtown Juneau, similar to the float located at the Auke Bay Loading Facility. The new float will be a major improvement for downtown commercial fishermen, freight haulers, and other marine users. The float will allow vehicles — including pickups, trucks with trailers, and semi-trucks—to drive directly to the vessels for loading, unloading, and servicing.
CBJ Docks & Harbors received a $11.1 million Port Infrastructure Development Program grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation (Maritime Administration), which will fund 80% of the project.
At the Oct. 15 meeting, Docks and Harbors will share preliminary design documents and PND engineers will lead a discussion on the preliminary design elements of the project with an opportunity for the public to provide comment. Docks and Harbors is also accepting comments on the design at matthew.sill@juneau.gov through Oct. 31.
For questions regarding the project or the public meeting, contact CBJ Docks and Harbors at atthew.Sill@juneau.gov or 586-0398.
