The Juneau Community Foundation has announced its recipients of the 2026 Artist Awards.

The public is invited to participate in “Scenario Choosing” workshops, the next round of the City and Borough of Juneau’s Comprehensive Plan update. Using community input from last winter’s “Juneau Futures” activities, the “Scenario Choosing” workshops will present a series of unique growth scenarios that explore what Juneau could look like in the future. Provide your input by participating in a workshop in person or online.

A test of the Salmon Creek emergency evacuation sirens is scheduled to be conducted by Alaska Electric Light and Power at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23.

The University of Alaska Southeast annual fall lecture series, Evening at Egan, kicks off Friday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. with a panel discussion featuring Indigenous language educators.

The Juneau Central Labor Council invites the community to the organization’s annual Labor Day Picnic from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 7, at the Savikko Park log cabin shelter.

Beginning the week of Sept. 1, 2026, the City and Borough of Juneau Water Utility will begin flushing the water distribution system. Work is scheduled to begin in Douglas, then moving downtown and working north to the hospital, the Lemon Creek area, the Valley, Auke Bay and the Tee Harbor area, in that order.

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) is announcing that as of Tuesday, Sept. 1, sport fishing will be closed for all species in Gastineau Channel south of a line between Salmon Creek Bridge and a regulatory marker across the channel on Douglas Island and north of the Douglas Bridge.
