A question of honor

Sen. Dan Sullivan, alongside 46 of his Republican colleagues, has voted in near-total compliance with the Trump administration. His notable breaks were opposing a Justice Department compensation fund and funding the White House ballroom.

Sen. Sullivan’s military background means he understands the reality of war. By failing to forcefully check the administration’s escalation with Iran — despite explicit warnings from the entire defense establishment — he chose partisan compliance over strategy. That is a profound failure of leadership.

Sen. Sullivan has long stated that America’s ultimate weapon against China and Russia is our global network of allies. Yet he remains silent as the administration insults and slaps random tariffs on our Canadian and European partners. This, too, is a failure of leadership.

In this election, Alaskans face a critical moral and economic choice. While Sen. Sullivan offered mild criticism over the administration importing Russian diesel and waiving mandatory sanctions, a mere television appearance is not enough when America breaks its word. This is a question of national honor. Alaskans must vote their conscience and send someone to Washington who answers to the Constitution and national interest, never to blind party loyalty.
