A dragged-out search for a new manager at Juneau International Airport is hitting the accelerator pedal with a special board meeting Monday where an in-house candidate not among the initial finalists will be interviewed.

Andres Delgado, the airport’s maintenance and operations superintendent for the past three years, is scheduled to be interviewed at noon in the airport’s Alaska Room. As with the interviews of the previous finalists, the interviews will begin with a session that is open to the public before moving into executive session.

Delgado previously worked as the assistant operations manager and marketing program manager at Bakersfield Jet Center by Loyd's Aviation in California beween 2019 and 2022, when he moved to Juneau.

His resume states his current job involves overseeing "all aspects of airfield maintenance and operations, including snow and ice control, equipment fleet, paved and unpaved areas, public protection, runway condition reporting, ARFF, and movement area training in close coordination with all airport stakeholders."

On Thursday he presided over a disaster simulation "tabletop exercise" at the airport in preparation for a full-scale simulation involving more than 100 volunteers and emergency personnel from multiple agencies scheduled Saturday, July 26.

The board is seeking a manager to replace Patty Wahto, who had served in the position for 27 years, after she retired in April. Dave Palmer, a former airport and city manager in Juneau, is serving as the interim manager — but is not interested in the permanent position. Two previous finalists from a pool of applicants, Micheal Clow and Micheal Isaacs, were interviewed in June from a pool of applicants, but neither was hired and the board reopened its search.
