Teams split Saturday doubleheader at Adair-Kennedy, rematch on Sunday

Juneau’s Auke Bay Post 25 clashed bats with Chugiak Post 33 in a Saturday doubleheader at Adair Kennedy Memorial Park field, with each team coming away with one league win and each suffering a league loss.
Chugiak (6-2), outhit Juneau (5-1) 14-13, while Juneau pitchers struck out eight Chugiak batters, one more than went down swinging for Juneau.
Juneau won the opener 8-7 behind a 3-3 day at the plate by Hunter Carte, including two runs batted in and two runs scored. Carte also drew a walk.
Nate Fick and Riley Fick added two RBI, along with new addition to the team, Micah Nelson.
Noah Lewis, Nelson, R. Fick and Drew Cadigan McAdoo had one hit each. Lewis and Cadigan McAdoo scored two runs, Madden Mendoza and Brenner Harralston one apiece. Cadigan-McAdoo and Mendoza earned two walks apiece, Lewis, R. Fick and Bode Winkelman one each.
Juneau threw four pitchers in the opener with N. Fick going two innings (1 R, 2 BB, 2 SO), Cadigan-McAdoo 3.2 IP (5 H, 6 R, 5 BB, 1 SO), Keaton Belcourt 1 IP (1 H, 1 BB, 1 SO) and Nelson .1 IP (1 SO).
Cooper Marks led Chugiak with two hits and two RBI. Cole Lux started (4 IP, 4 H, 6 R, 7 BB, 6 SO) and Marks relieved (2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 BB).
In the nightcap Juneau took a first-inning 3-0 lead and kept an advantage through five innings for a 5-4 lead. They scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning, but surrendered six in the bottom half to trail 10-7. Juneau scored one run in the top of the seventh but fell 10-8.
Juneau’s Carte went 2-4 (2 RBI, 2 R, 1 BB) to lead Auke Bay. He also had one stolen base.
Madden Mendoza and Nelson added two hits apiece. Madden Mendoza, N. Fick, Nelson, R. Fick and Cadigan-McAdoon had one RBI each. Noah Lewis and Madden Mendoza scored two runs apiece, Harralston one. Winkleman earned four walks, Lewis three, Madden Mendoza and Harralston one each. Lewis stole two bases and Nelson one.
Nelson started for Auke Bay (5.2 IP, 8 H, 8 R, 4 BB, 2 SO) and R. Fick closed (0.1 IP, 2 R, 2 BB, 1 SO).
Weston Gracey led Chugiak, going 2-4 (2 RBI, 1 R) at the plate and Gus Westerlund went 1-2 (2 RBI, 2 R). Tyson Morgan pitched five innings (6 H, 7 R, 7 BB, 1 SO), Cooper Millard (1 IP, 1 BB) and Jonah Shearer (1 IP, 1 R, 2 BB) relieved.
Juneau will host Chugiak Post 33 in a doubleheader on Sunday (1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.).
