Auke Bay Post 25 dominates series at Ketchikan Post 3

Juneau wins three of four games, continues to lead Legion AA

Juneau’s Auke Bay Post 25 overcame a first-game defeat on the road at Ketchikan Post 3 to win three in a row on the Kings' home field to take over first place in the Legion AA standings over the weekend.


Auke Bay improves to 7-2 in league and 9-3 overall with Kenai Twins Post 20 in second at 5-2 and 10-5 overall. Ketchikan is seventh at 5-4 and 6-6 overall.


Juneau fell 2-0 in a Friday league opener as Kings starter Ace Asper allowed just four hits, walked three batters and struck out three across seven innings. Cash Larson, Ayden Manabat and Asper had one hit each. Asper had two RBI. Hayden Trudeau and Larson scored.


Not to be outdone, Juneau’s Hunter Carte went five innings (2 H, 2 R, 6 BB, 10 SO) and Drew Cadigan-McAdoo relieved (1 IP, 1 H, 2 SO). Madden Mendoza had two hits, Jacob Katasse and Parker Katasse one apiece.


Juneau swept Ketchikan in a Saturday league doubleheader, taking the opener 5-4 and the nightcap 9-4.


Juneau’s Cayman Huff (5.1 IP, 10 H, 4 R) started the first game, Cadigan-McAdoo relieved (0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB) and Nate Fick closed (1 IP, 1 H, 2 SO). Carte and Mendoza had two hits apiece, Noah Lewis, Bode Winkelman and J. Katasse one each. Mendoza had two RBI, Winkleman and Brenner Harralston one each. Carte scored two runs, Lewis, Mendoza and Winkelman one each. Carte, Mendoza, Winkelman and J. Katasse earned one walk each.


Ketchikan’s Brady Kline took the loss (6 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 BB, 1 SO) and Owen Mendoza relieved (1 IP, 1 H, 1 R). Kline, Bryant Marquez, Manabat and Trudeau had two hits each. Marquez, Manabat, Trudeau and Rylan Hanchey one hit each.

In the nightcap Cadigan-McAdoo (6 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 2 SO) and Mendoza (1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB) kept Ketchikan in check for the 9-4 win. Lewis (1 R, 1 RBI) led with three hits, Cadigan-McAdoo two, Carte (3 R, 1 RBI, 2 BB), Mendoza (1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB), Harralston (2 RBI, 2 BB), Winkelman (1 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB) one hit each. Riley Fick had one run.


Ketchikan’s Manabat (4.2 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 6 BB) took the loss and Larson (1.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 BB) relieved. Marquez led with 3 RBI, Mendoza led with 2 runs, Mendoza, Larson, Marquez and Bryce Smith had one hit each.


Juneau closed out the trip on Sunday with solid fielding in a 12-2 non-league win. Harralston (2 IP, 1 SO), J. Katasse (1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 4 BB) and Winkelman (2 IP, 1 SO) shared the mound. P. Katasse (1 R, 1 BB) led with three hits. N. Fick (2 R, 1 RBI), Winkelman (2 R, 1 RBI), Harralston (2 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB), Carte (1 R, 2 RBI), Mendoza (1 RBI), Ayden Bergmann (1 R) and J. Katasse had one hit each. Lewis walked twice and scored two runs. Cadigan McAdoo walked once and scored one run.


Ketchikan’s Hayden McMahon (3 IP, 6 H, 7 R, 2 BB, 2 SO) took the loss, Marquez 1.1 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 2 BB) relieved and Zyrus Manabat (0.2 IP) toed the mound. Kline (1 RBI) and Miles Trudeau (1 R) had one hit apiece. Mendoza, McMahon, Hanchey and Bryson Harold (1 R) had one walk each.


Juneau’s Auke Bay Post 25 will have a rough non-league test on Thursday as they face a team that should know them very well. Auke Bay hosts their alumni game at 6 p.m. on the Adair-Kennedy Memorial Park field.


Legion league action resumes on July 7-12 with Auke Bay hosting East Post 34 for their final home series. Juneau then takes to the road for games in Anchorage and Wasilla from July 16-19, the Matson Invitational Tournament in Anchorage July 22-24 and the Legion AA State Tournament in Anchorage July 27-31.
