Community runners last to run in the rain in season finale

Open race for any runners finishes off the high school Region V championships

After all the mud was buried under torrents of rain along the Treadwell Historic Mine Trail at Saturday’s high school Region V Cross Country Championships — and the meet had concluded — the last hearty runners in the community heard the starter’s pistol and raced Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé Crimson Bears non-region team harriers in an all-comers 5K challenge.

“It is great for the whole team to be able to get in on the excitement of the region meet by being able to run that day in the open race,” JDHS co-head coach Zack Bursell said. “I think the team really responded to that energy and as a result we saw a lot of strong performances.”

Racers all ran in one race. Individual finishes have been separated into boys’ and girls’ placings.
