Sitka wins team titles, Kayh second, JDHS third over the weekend

The Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé Crimson Bears had some individual wins on the last day of the Sitka Invitational Track and Field meet, but placed third in the standings behind host Sitka and Southeast rival Ketchikan on Saturday.


Sitka won the girls team title with 90 points, Kayhi second with 30, JDHS 23 and Yakutat one. The Sitka boys topped the standings with 87 points, Kayhi 45.5 and JDHS 22.5.


Saturday's prom kept some athletes home in Juneau, but Crimson Bears at Sitka did well.


JDHS sophomore Shandiin Frommherz won the girls 100 meters in 13.6 seconds with classmate Mya Hayes third in 14.4. Freshman Lucy Wall ran 17.2 in the preliminaries on Friday.


Hayes won the 200 meters in a season best 30.9. Freshman Clara Van Kirk ran a personal best 34.7 in prelims and Wall a PB 36.7. Frommherz won the 400 meters in 1:08.9 with Van Kirk second in a PB 1:14.7 and freshman Kira English fifth in 1:19.0.


JDHS junior Orion Paden ran an 11.9 in the 100-meter prelims on Friday, but scratched in the Saturday finals won by Sitka sophomore Andrew Mullin in 11.7. In Friday prelims, junior Krew Ridle ran 12.5, freshman William Westmoreland 13.2, junior Isaiah Carrillo 13.4, sophomore Jarry Maghinay 13.5 and sophomore Lucas Wyatt a PB 14.0. Also on Friday, Westmoreland ran sixth in the 200 prelims in a PB 28.0, Carrillo 29.1 and Wyatt a season-best 31.9.


Sitka’s Mullin won the boys 400 in 57.2, edging JDHS junior Zachariah Bos in 57.9 and Ridle in 59.5.


Sitka sophomore Kailee Brady won the girls discus with a throw of 76 feet 6.5 inches with no JDHS entrants. Ketchikan senior Jack Dunn won the boys discus with 121-1.5 with JDHS sophomore Heleman AitaotoTelea fourth with a PB 106-1.


Ketchikan junior Ryan Elerding won the girls triple jump in 28 feet 6.75 inches with Sitka senior Taylor Cushing second in 25-4.75. Sitka senior Cole McLaughlin won the boys triple jump in 36-6, Kayhi sophomore Anthony Talaugea second with a PB 36-4.5, Sitka freshman Owen Mork third at 35-6.75 and JDHS sophomore Sylvion Washington fourth with a PB 34-4.5.


JDHS’ Maghinay, Washington, freshman Vince Nizich and Westmoreland won the boys 4x100 relay in 51.1 seconds. Sitka’s McLaughlin and juniors Marc Tomas, James Nellis and Zach Martins won the 4x400 in 4:07.0 with JDHS second in 4:13.0 (Bos, sophomore Anderson Murray, junior Gage Keller, sophomore Carson Kautz) and JDHS third in 4:25.9 ( Ridle, Nizich, Washington, Paden). Sitka won the 4x800 in 10:11.4 with seniors Abhinav Abhinav and Justin Hames and sophomores Calvin Strong and Silas Todd (no JDHS team ran).


Sitka seniors Natalie Hall, Emma Heuer, Leilynn Swain and Jadelynn Kubik won the girls 4x100 in 56.4 (No JDHS team ran). The Wolves’ Hall, Kubik, Swain and freshman Grace Hall won the 4x400 in 5:00.8 with JDHS’ Van Kirk, senior Melanie Shrader, Frommherz and Hayes second in 5:18.1. Sitka senior Marina Marley and freshmen Noah Schmidt, Mari Fuijoka and Lola Hitchcock won the 4x800 in 11:54.9 (no JDHS team ran).

FRIDAY FINALS


Sitka junior Derek Wilson won the boys 800- and 3,200-meter races in 2:14.3 and 10:33. 5, respectively. Ketchikan senior Carter Phillips was second in the 800 with 2:14.5 and JDHS’ Murray third with 2:19.1. Sitka junior Zach Martins was second in the 3,200 with 10:58.8 and JDHS’ Bos third in 11:01.6.


Sitka’s Hitchcock won the girls 800 in 2:49 with senior teammate Marley second in 2:50 and Ketchikan junior Sarah Kleeman third in 2:55. Marley won the 3,200 in 13:05.3, Hitchcock was second in 13:14.2 and freshman teammate Schmidt third in 13:42.6. JDHS freshman Dezerae Bos placed fifth in 14:22.8.


Ketchikan’s Dunn won the boys shot put in 42 feet 4.25 inches with Sitka senior Shane Tincher second in 39 feet 0.25 inches. JDHS’ AitaotoTelea was fourth with 35 feet 11.25 inches. Sitka’s Brady won the girls shot put in 27 feet 10 inches.


Ketchikan’s Talaugea won the boys high jump with 5’6. JDHS’ Nizich placed fourth with 5’2. Ketchikan freshman Josie Jackson won the girls high jump with 3’10.


Sitka seniors swept the girls long jump with Kubik going 13’11.5, Hall 13’9.5 and Cushing 12’6. Sitka freshman Zander Sudnikovich-Remington won the boys long jump with 19’6 and Sitka seniors McLaughlin and Zander Dumag placed second and third in 19’4.5 and 18’2.5, respectively.
