Fourteen Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé senior soccer girls took to the pitch at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Park on Wednesday, much like they started their Crimson Bears careers, in the rain and wind and in front of faithful fans.
After honoring their seniors — Tearamae Alexander, Raynona Fraker (Yaaḵoosgé Daakahídi Alternative High School), Hazel McWilliams, Koby Yturbe, Peyton Wheeler, Kenzie Simonson, Ainsley Mallott, Randy Stichert, Grace Gazdig, Piper Blackgoat Diehl, Lydia Heidemann, Lorelei Urrutia-Lugo, Anberlin Tingey and Sasha Morrison — the Crimson Bears put each through the roster and opened a 3-0 first-half lead.

Freshman Hailey Romero scored the game's first goal, assisted by sophomore Ayla Erickson. Erickson would score the second goal unassisted and Alexander, who played forward while senior Raynona Fraker worked the goalkeeper position, scored unassisted in first-half stoppage time for the 3-0 start.

JDHS did not slow down in the second half as Wheeler scored, assisted by junior Riley Schultz.
Wheeler drew more defensive attention in the second half and turned her cleats into assist machines as she delivered two goal-scoring balls to Erickson for the 6-0 final.
The duo would team up for one final honor. JDHS coach Matt Dusenberry gave the team’s Hard Hat award to Erickson and Wheeler.

Division I JDHS improves to 11-2-1 overall and remains 6-1-1 in the Railbelt Conference. The Crimson Bears girls and boys will host the Cook Inlet Conference’s South Anchorage Wolverines this weekend.
The JDHS girls play at the undefeated South girls at 5:15 p.m. Friday followed by the Crimson Bears boys senior night at 7 p.m. and boys friendly against the South boys at 7:30 p.m. Saturday the girls play South at 11 a.m. and the boys play South at 1 p.m. Both JDHS teams and South teams have qualified for the DI state tournament, May 28-30, hosted by Colony, Palmer and Wasilla High Schools.
DII Ketchikan is 1-7-2 overall. The Kayhi girls and Kayhi boys teams are the only team in their Southeast Conference and play in the DII state tournament, May 28-30, also hosted by Colony, Palmer and Wasilla.
