The Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé Crimson Bears boys basketball team finished their Southeast Conference road trip at Ketchikan with a 53-48 win on Saturday over the Kings. JDHS had won 56-45 Friday.

The Crimson Bears continued their weekend marksmanship with eight shots from beyond the arc.

JDHS seniors Kurt Kuppert, Brandon Casperson and Joren Gasga and junior Logan Carriker each hit one from distance in the first quarter. Carriker added another basket and JDHS had a 14-9 advantage after eight minutes.

Carriker and senior Elias Dybdahl imposed their will inside in the second quarter. Carriker would score six points and Dybdahl two. Both provided an intimidation factor on defense as well. Casperson added a shot from the arc and Gasga, seniors Tyler Frisby and Noah Ault and sophomore Micah Nelson added pressure on defense.

Ketchikan sophomore Anthony Talango kept the Kings in contention with seven points in the first quarter and senior Joziah Dela Cruz had eight points in the second quarter but JDHS led 30-23 at the half.

JDHS’ Gasga and Dybdahl scored to start the third quarter and Casperson added a shot past the arc and the Crimson Bears pulled away for a 44-33 lead as the quarter ended.

Ketchikan showed more aggression in the final eight minutes while JDHS was cold from the field. Casperson would notch his fourth shot past the arc and Gasga added the team’s only other field goal of the stanza.

Ketchikan went 7-11 at the free throw line in the fourth quarter to go with eight points from the field by Talango but the Kings could not close the gap, falling 53-48.
