A downed power line in Lemon Creek knocked out electricity to much of the northern part of Juneau at midday Sunday, disrupting some businesses and traffic lights before all service was reported restored shortly before 3 p.m.
The outage was initially reported at 12:13 p.m. by Alaska Electric Light and Power on its Facebook page. In a subsequent post at 12:54 p.m. the company noted repairs affecting a wide area of town were underway.
"The crew is working on repairing a downed line in Lemon Creek," the second post noted. "They will start restoring power to affected areas in the Valley and out the road in the next half hour. Power in Lemon Creek will be out for longer while they work on the repair. Please be mindful of crews working along the road."
Photos posted on social media showed power lines down near the Breeze In store in Lemon Creek.
At 2:49 p.m. AEL&P announced "all customers should be back on. If you are still experiencing an outage, call 907-586-AELP for assistance."
The outage affected the traffic lights at the McNugget Intersection as well as numerous businesses including the Mendenhall Mall — with some announcing they were closing early until Monday — plus city recreational facilities in the Mendenhall Valley.
