Eaglecrest Ski Area will be open for short hours on the shortest day of the year, with the Porcupine chairlift at the base of the mountain operating from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, according to an update posted Saturday afternoon.
The announcement comes after the ski area was closed Friday and Saturday due to a water main break. Water still has not been restored to the resort — so food and indoor plumbing will not be available — but most other services including lessons, rentals and access to the base lodges for warming purposes will be available.
"Professional crews are actively working to repair the break and restore water service to the lodges," the update posted at Eaglecrest’s Facebook page notes.
Eaglecrest’s original holiday season schedule was from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily between Dec. 19 and Jan. 4 (except for Christmas and New Year’s Day).
The ski area began its 50th season of operation on Dec. 13 with the Porcuine lift in operation. But a frozen water pipe has impaired the snowmaking system and repairs are ongoing with the Ptarmigan lift that accesses the top of the mountain.
Events scheduled for Christmas week include holiday movies in Porcupine Lodge from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 22 and 23, and the annual Christmas Eve events on Dec. 24 including free skiing for people dressed as Santa and a holiday party from 3-6 p.m. at the Fish Creek Lodge.
