The Glacier Swim Club took 14 athletes to the First City Invitational at Ketchikan’s Gateway Aquatic Center over the weekend. 

GSC was represented by girls Molly Woodruff (age 12), Shelby Jones (12), Grace Propsom (12), Henley Peterson (11), Quinn Gann (10), Emily Treston (10), Auri Jones (9) and Greta Thompson (9), and boys Joshua Ely (13), Leif Thompson (12), Reid Cummings (12), Austin Treston (12), Miles Rowan (11) and Finn Cummings (9). Glacier Swim Club head coach Daemon Vargas attended.

"I was impressed once again by the community. Our athletes and parents socializing with their peers from other teams shows me how connected the clubs in the Southeast are," Vargas stated in a text message after the meet. "Coaches and parents I had met once, or not at all, approach me with a familiarity that would have you believe years of association. As for our club, I loved how quickly and easily our parents coordinated activities outside of the meet and how supportive our athletes were with each other, you can hear them cheering every race."

No team scores were available. Sitka’s Baranof Barracudas Swim Club had 13 athletes, Craig Waverunners Swim Club had 22, Petersburg’s Viking Swim Club had 16 and host Ketchikan Killer Whales 42.
