The Goldbelt Tram is running help-wanted notices for operators and other positions in anticipation of reopening this season, but when and for how long remain unknown.
"We are still working on repairs and getting ready for the engineer inspection for certification to operate," McHugh Pierre, president and CEO of Goldbelt Inc., wrote in an email Tuesday to the Juneau Independent.
Goldbelt’s jobs webpage on Tuesday was topped by three featured listings for operator ($30/hour), attendant ($25/hour) and janitor ($18/hour) positions. No starting dates are listed.
"We kindly ask that all applicants either live in Juneau or be open to relocating at their own expense," the notices state. They also note end-of-season bonuses may be paid to workers.
The tram has been closed since an accident April 30 and as of Tuesday there are eight weeks remaining until cruise activity largely ceases, with three more ships during the following week including the last one on Oct. 6. Last year the final ship was in port Oct. 14, and the tram’s schedule during that month largely reflected the intermittent arrival of ships.
A cafe, gift shop and other guest operations at the tram’s base station have been open since shortly after the accident.
