This is a developing story.

Bartlett High School took command on the opening drive by pounding the ball up the middle for a touchdown and never relinquished it in a 27-0 homefield shutout Saturday against Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa·at Kalé.

The Crimson Bears are now 1-3 on the season, with all three losses coming on the road. They play their next three games at home, beginning with South Anchorage High School at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Park.

The Golden Bears (2-1), starting on their own 39-yard line after the opening kickoff, ran 11 straight plays up the middle for a touchdown and a 6-0 lead after a two-point conversion failed.

Juneau punted on its first two possessions and turned the ball over on its third, with Bartlett then driving inside the Juneau 20-yard line and connecting on a pass across the middle to make the score 13-0 shortly before halftime.

The teams exchanged turnovers to start the third quarter, followed by another Juneau punt. Bartlett responded with a 55-yard drive that ended in a 22-yard touchdown run and a missed conversion to make the score 19-0.

The Crimson Bears’ best scoring opportunity came midway through the fourth quarter when they drove from their own 38-yard line to inside Bartlett’s 10-yard line, aided by two consecutive penalties by the home team. But the Golden Bears’ defense stiffened up and a fourth-down field goal attempt was tipped to preserve the shutout.

Bartlett’s final touchdown came on an interception return for a touchdown with 39 seconds left. A successful two-point conversion resulted in the final 27-0 score.
