Haines man shot near Picture Point on Saturday

By Rashah McChesney

Chilkat Valley News

A Haines man with a gunshot wound was medevaced out of the Chilkat Valley for treatment Saturday afternoon.

On Sunday, Haines police put out a media release saying someone had called them and said they had shot the man in the 300 block of Lutak Road the prior day.

Officers responded, arrested a woman and gave first aid to a man with a gunshot wound.

In most cases, the Chilkat Valley News does not name alleged perpetrators of crimes until the facts of the case are ruled on by a court. In this case as of Sunday evening, police do not appear to have charged anyone with a crime and they are withholding both parties’ identities.

Contacts from the police department or city administration listed on the media release did not immediately respond to a request seeking more information about the legal justification of withholding the name of someone police arrested.
