Here's how to vote in Juneau's municipal election

Ballots mailed Friday; Election Day is Oct. 6

Registered voters can cast their ballot by mail or at a vote center until Juneau’s municipal election ends at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6.

Eight candidates are seeking three Juneau Assembly seats and three candidates are seeking two Juneau Board of Education seats in this fall's local election. There are also three tax-related ballot propositions on the ballot. More information can be found here.

All 11 candidates in the election got a chance Wednesday evening to air their positions on key issues to residents during a televised forum two days before ballots were mailed and drop boxes opened on Friday.

Vote by mail beginning Friday

Registered voters can expect to see a ballot in their mailbox soon, according to a City and Borough of Juneau press release. After receiving it, they can return their completed ballot at a secure drop box available 24/7 in the following locations:

Auke Bay: Statter Harbor Boat Launch Parking (11801 Glacier Highway, not the Harbor Office parking lot)
Downtown: City Hall (155 Heritage Way, corner of Marine Way and Shattuck Way)
Douglas: Douglas Public Library (1016 3rd Street)
Lemon Creek: Alaska Electric Light and Power Company (5601 Tonsgard Court)
Valley: Mendenhall Valley Public Library (3025 Dimond Park Loop)

Voters can also return their ballot through the U.S. Postal Service using first-class postage. Voters are encouraged to take their ballot to a USPS counter and request a hand postmark. Ballots returned via USPS must be postmarked on or before Oct. 6.

Vote centers open Monday

Vote centers will be open to people who need assistance voting, require an Americans with Disabilities Act accessible ballot, did not receive a ballot in the mail, or prefer to vote in person. Registered voters can vote in person at the following vote centers:

City Hall Assembly Chambers: From Sept. 21 to Oct. 5, open Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Mendenhall Valley Public Library: From Sept. 21 to Oct. 5, open Mondays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Fridays through Saturdays from 12 to 5 p.m.

On Election Day, these vote centers will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Final results will be certified on Oct. 20.

The last day to file as a “write-in” candidate is Sept. 29. This is also the last day to apply for a ballot to be sent to a different address.
