April's First Friday will feature a book signing, ceramics exhibition and visual art shows

Juneau Arts & Humanities Council: UAS Student Ceramics Exhibition

The University of Alaska Southeast Student Ceramics Exhibition is set to open, and light refreshments will be served. The exhibition will be on display from April 3-26.

Alaska State Museum: Myesha Callahan Freet | 𝙚𝙢𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙚. 𝙧𝙚𝙛𝙡𝙚𝙘𝙩. 𝙧𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙚. & 𝙎𝙥𝙞𝙧𝙞𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙄𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙥𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚: 𝙆𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝘽𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙣𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙋𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙛𝙤𝙡𝙞𝙤

Friday will be one of the final chances to see 𝙚𝙢𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙚. 𝙧𝙚𝙛𝙡𝙚𝙘𝙩. 𝙧𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙚., an exhibition by mixed media sculptor and performance artist Myesha Callahan Freet. Callahan Freet's inspiration and focus draw from an ongoing exploration into the evolution of self through examining her roles in relationships. Dedicated to a search for meaning and connection in the mundane, she aims to embrace life’s expansion and to reflect on what it means to be and release what no longer is. The exhibit runs through April 4.


The 𝙎𝙥𝙞𝙧𝙞𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙄𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙥𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚: 𝙆𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝘽𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙣𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙋𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙛𝙤𝙡𝙞𝙤, part of the 1976 U.S. Bicentennial celebration, features work from 12 artists who were asked to create pieces that answered one question: "What does independence mean to you?" The portfolio is currently on exhibit at the Alaska State Museum.

Marie Drake Planetarium: Explore the Universe

5:30-7 p.m.

1415 Glacier Ave.


Explore the universe with the planetarium's new digital projector and view short full-dome movies on the 30-foot dome. Astronomy questions welcome. No sign-up needed, suitable for all ages.

Juneau-Douglas City Museum: "Monochrome in Color," the 22nd annual 12x12 community art exhibition, and "Slow Beauty"

4-6 p.m.

Two continuing art exhibitions will be on display: "Monochrome in Color," the 22nd annual 12x12 community art exhibition, and "Slow Beauty," a slow-looking art exhibition.

Hearthside Books & Toys: Greta McKennan, Author

Local author Greta McKennan is set to celebrate the second release in her Cozy Mystery series, "Nightmare on the Northern Dream," with a book signing event.

Annie Kaill’s: Lindsey Burnet, Ceramicist & Visual Artist, and Paula Rohrbacher, Bead Artist

4:30-7:30 p.m.

Lindsey Burnet will show her ceramics, jewelry, and visual art, and Paula Rohrbacher will display beaded flowers.

The Pottery Jungle: Charlene Miller

4:30-7:30 p.m.

223 Seward St.


Charlene Miller’s "Holy Cow! It’s Easter Already!?" exhibit showcases a playful series of hand-built ceramic bunnies, highland cows and chickens. Miller uses whimsical forms and expressive details to capture the lighthearted spirit of springtime.

Aan Hít Village House & Sacred Grounds Café: Native Artist Vendor Tables

3-6 p.m.

219 S. Franklin St.


Aan Hít will host talented tribal citizen artists Ranelle Hinchman of Coho Lady Creations, Aiyana James and Jackqueline Leight-Chambers of Chambers Jewels.


Extended hours will be offered, and the current gallery exhibit, "Gestures of Our Rebel Bodies," will be on display.

Alaska Robotics: Lanie McCarry, oil painter

4:30-8 p.m.

134 N. Franklin St.


Artist and trail enthusiast Lanie McCarry is the featured April artist at Alaska Robotics. Her collection of more than 90 oil paintings—inspired by Mary Lou King’s book, "90+ Short Walks Around Juneau," her husband’s goal of hiking every trail it features, and her late grandfather’s love of landscapes—offers a vivid, intimate portrait of Juneau’s trail system. Supported by a grant from the Juneau Community Foundation, the series reflects a close, enduring connection to these landscapes and honors her grandfather’s lasting support.

Devil's Club Brewing Company: Ariane Goins

Artist Ariane Goins will display her gouache and watercolor botanicals inspired by Lingít Aaní, Juneau, Alaska.

Photographer Cam Byrnes will show a collection of private and unseen photos from outside Alaska to share how she sees the world.

Kindred Post: Rick Kauzlarich

4:30 p.m.-7 p.m. 


Kindred Post will be hosting Rick Kauzlarich's work with familiar views, wildlife, landscapes, and a few unexpected characters mixed in. His collection of 8”x8” aluminum prints is rendered in bright colors.


Spice Juneau Indian Cuisine: Nicole Steger, Matt Brown, and Heather Kiesel, Alaska Wildlife Photography

4-9 p.m.

116 North Franklin St.


Spice Juneau is opening a new gallery exhibit featuring three local wildlife photographers, with new work from Nicole Steger, Matt Brown and Heather Kiesel.

The Bear’s Lair: Rachael Juzeler, glass artist

6:30-9 p.m.

175 S Franklin St.


Rachael Juzeler will debut her show “4X4,” combining four different art collections into one set of intricate glass textures and mosaics. Live music and snacks will be available.
