Juneau-Douglas City Museum: Meeting Awareness: Oil paintings by Susan Watson
4:30-7 p.m.
114 W. 4th St.
Meeting Awareness is a series by painter Susan Watson of eight large close-up oil paintings of faces. The portraits are meant to dive deeply into what it means to meet someone directly, to connect with their awareness, reality and being. Each painting is meant to be an offering of a meditative experience through an intimate meeting with an apparent “other.” The exhibit opening, postponed due to weather, will be held 4:30-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9.
Exhibit up through the month.
Juneau-Douglas City Museum: On Beaver Pond: A Photo Exhibit by Damon Stuebner
1-3:30 p.m.
114 W. 4th St.
An opening reception for Damon Stuebner's photo series will also be held at the Juneau-Douglas City Museum on Saturday, Jan. 3. On Beaver Pond is a documentary photo exhibition about the beavers, and their pond habitat along the Outer Point Loop Trail. It features a slide show of photos and recorded sounds from over the course of one year. Merging recorded audio with the still photos creates a more immersive experience, which Stuebner hopes will educate viewers about the beavers’ ecological importance.
