In the midst of the annual “Fat Head” photo shoots, balloon and flower parades and colorful candy-laden lai adornments on Friday and Saturday at the George Houston Gymnasium, four basketball games were played between the Southeast Conference 4A Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé Crimson Bears boys and girls varsity programs and the visiting Tri-Valley Warriors of the 1A Golden Heart Conference, in appreciation of those seniors who are involved in the hoops season.
The JDHS girls defeated the Lady Warriors 67-28 on Friday and 53-27 Saturday.
The JDHS boys defeated the Warriors 67-45 on Friday and 66-43 Saturday.
On Friday, JDHS dance team senior captain Yetke Mertl and Claire Snyder were acknowledged. The team kept fans in rapt attention with performances of their pom, hip-hop and light march routines at halftime of the games as the group has done all season.
In addition on Friday, the senior spirit of the newly crowned national champion JDHS cheer team was represented between the two varsity games with seniors Hadley Bex, Marlee Gines, Renz Hill, Mati Iona, Simon Iputi, Jonah Mahle, Megan Pierce, Karina San Miguel, Kira Tupou, Richard Tupou, Arely Vera Garcia, Audrey Yu and manager Shaelyn Martinez being honored.

On Saturday, the career dedication of Crimson Bears senior girls hoopsters Cambry Lockhart, Gwen Nizich and Raynona Fraker and Crimson Bears senior boys Noah Ault, Brandon Casperson, Ryland Carlson, Elias Dybdahl, Tyler Frisby, Joren Gasga, Kurt Kuppert, Christian Rielly, Veron Brewer and Tyler Williams were acknowledged after the girls' win over the Lady Warriors and before the boys' night cap victory over the Warriors.
The musical achievements of JDHS pep band seniors Brynna Morgan, Sarah Rivera, Emerson Newell, Rowen Barr, Cayman Huff, Kelsie Powers, Lorelei Urrutia-Lugo, Aaron Doten-Ferguson and Leslie Zamora were also touted Saturday. The pep band is the musical force that has rocked the GHG all season and they did not disappoint over the weekend, beginning their play as teams came onto the floor, adding excitement to each time out or cheer entry, and when not playing, filling the balcony with craziness.

On Saturday evening, after officials honorably pocketed their whistles, after players and coaches shook hands and left the court, after score books were tallied and closed, after bleachers were cleaned and the locker rooms emptied - the seniors' regular season had ended, but they will not be forgotten.
