Officials are seeking people with information about a vehicle that went into the water at Douglas Harbor early Wednesday morning, with the driver apparently leaving the scene before emergency responders arrived, according to the Juneau Police Department.
JPD got a report at about 1:43 a.m. a vehicle entered the water in the 100 block of Savikko Road, according to an information release issued by the department. Deputy Chief Krag Campbell told the Juneau Independent the incident occurred in the parking area at the harbor.
"Responding officers located the vehicle, a maroon Chevrolet Silverado submerged in the water," the JPD release notes. "The vehicle was recovered, and no occupants were located inside or in the immediate area. The United States Coast Guard also responded to assist with the incident."
JPD as of midmorning Wednesday was trying to locate the driver of the vehicle.
"Based on information gathered during the initial investigation, the driver was reportedly picked up by an unknown individual and transported to the downtown Juneau area before emergency responders arrived," the department’s release notes.
People witnessing the incident or with information about it are asked to call JPD at 907-586-0600. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Juneau Crime Line.
