A Juneau man who stole underwear during burglaries of homes and downloaded illegal sexual abuse material involving minors has been sentenced to six years in prison, according to prosecutors.

Lucas Suryan, 22, was sentenced Sept. 12 on two counts of first-degree burglary for incidents at two homes, one count of first-degree attempted burglary for attempting to break into a third home, and one count of possessing child sexual abuse material, a press release issued by the Alaska Department of Law states. He pleaded guilty to the charges April 18.

The burglaries occurred in 2023 at homes that were unoccupied when Suryan entered them, according to the press release. At the time he was subject to electronic monitoring as part of his conditions from a previous case.

"In one home, he stole a teen girl’s underwear. Suryan then posted photographs of the underwear on a website and unidentified persons, possibly Suryan himself, used the photographs to harass the teen girl," the release states. During the second burglary the owner returning to his home "caught Suryan in the house coming out of his teenage daughter’s bedroom."

"At the home of a third teenage girl, Suryan was caught on camera climbing a ladder in an attempt to enter the home through an upstairs deck door, but he could not gain access," the release states.

A subsequent search of Suryan’s bedroom located the stolen underwear from the first burglary and other underwear "labeled with the name of the female it apparently belonged to."

The Department of Law did not respond as of early Wednesday afternoon to questions from the Juneau Independent about whether Suryan knew the occupants of the houses he was trying to enter, if he had direct or online contact with any of the girls mentioned, and specifics about the previous case that resulted in electronic monitoring. The state’s online court database shows he has been subject to civil protective orders since 2023 and was a defendant in a 2023 case involving theft charges that were dismissed.

The images of sexual abuse material involving minors was discovered when, during the investigation of the burglaries, a tip about a suspicious Google account initially provided to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children was passed on to the Juneau Police Department.

"A search warrant was served on a number of Suryan’s seized electronic devices and yielded multiple illegal materials that depicted sexual abuse material involving minors," the press release states. "Suryan admitted to downloading and possessing those images."

Superior Court Judge Larry Woolford sentenced Suryan to 15 total years of incarceration, including time suspended, and five years of probation. He will have to register as a sexual offender for 15 years after his probation ends.
