Juneau man killed in single-vehicle collision in Palmer

A 33-year-old Juneau man died in a single-vehicle accident in Palmer on Thursday morning, according to the Alaska State Troopers.

Eric Ashenfelter, 33, was unconscious and trapped inside the vehicle when Troopers arrived at the scene after being contacted about the collision on Hyer Road at 7:31 a.m., according to an AST bulletin.

"Mat-Su Borough EMS and Fire extricated Ashenfelter and transported him to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased," the bulletin notes. "Investigation determined that Ashenfelter’s vehicle was traveling northbound on the Parks Highway, became airborne over the Hyer underpass, and struck the concrete support on the opposite side. Next of kin have been notified, and the investigation remains ongoing."

A GoFundMe has been established on behalf of his family, which notes he had "a wife, three children, and a baby on the way."
