Juneau poker pro Jacob Thibodeau is ASP’s Athlete of the Week after shining at World Series of Poker

Juneau poker pro Jacob Thibodeau bagged $215,000 at the World Series of Poker Main Event after placing 43rd in a field of 9,208, earning him our Alaska Athlete of the Week accolades.

This was his sixth cash at this month’s WSOP, earning him total winnings of $262,207.

This was the best finish in five career appearances at the Main Event for the The 2015 Juneau-Douglas graduate, improving on his 74th-place finish in 2019.

Also receiving votes:

• Hunter Carte – The Auke Bay Post 25 pitcher threw a seven-inning shutout with seven strikeouts in a 10-0 win over East Post 34. Initially credited with a no-hitter, a sixth inning error was later converted to an East High base hit.  

• Jacob Joanis – The Kenai Post 20 American Legion baseball player belted a two-run home run at Oiler Park for his league-leading fourth dinger of the season.

• Allie Ostrander – The runner from Soldotna placed fourth against a loaded field at the U.S. 6K Championships. The professional runner from Kenai sped to a time of 18 minutes, 20 seconds, averaging a blistering pace of 4:55 per mile.

• Alissa Pili – The third-year WNBA player from Anchorage made her season debut for the Los Angeles Sparks, grabbing a career-high five rebounds in 12 minutes and scoring her 100th career point.

• Wally Sherwood – The East Post 34 baseball player hit a grand slam against Auke Bay Post 25 in game one of a doubleheader. The big hit lifted East to a 5-0 lead over the home team from Juneau but Auke Bay rallied for a 9-5 win.
