Juneau broke a high temperature for a second straight day on Friday at 85 degrees Fahrenheit, breaking the old record of 79 degrees set in 1979, following an 80-degree day Thursday, according to National Weather Service Juneau.

A high of 80 degrees is forecast Saturday at Juneau International Airport, but that will fall short of the record for Aug. 15 of 83 degrees set in 2004. The forecast for upcoming days is a high of about 70 degrees on Sunday, with clouds and rain arriving Sunday night that are expected to continue through at least Friday.

Juneau’s all-time high temperature is 90 degrees set on July 7, 1975.

Yakutat also set a high-temperature record on Friday at 74 degrees, beating the previous high of 73 degrees in 1974, according to NWS Juneau. In addition, a heat advisory remains in effect today from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. for Haines Borough and Prince of Wales Island.

"A ridge of high pressure in the Gulf of Alaska is bringing a warm and dry Saturday," NWS Juneau noted in a post at 10 a.m. Saturday on its Facebook page. "The ridge is not quite as strong as the past few days, but there is a heat advisory for temperatures in the 80s for Haines and Prince of Wales Island. For Juneau and Hoonah, high temperatures are expected to be in the mid-to-upper 70s. A low pressure system will bring some rain and cooler temperatures beginning on the NE Gulf Coast Sunday, so there is some change in the forecast."
