JSC U13 and U16 boys earn semifinals among Alaska’s best on the fútbol pitch

The Juneau Soccer Club U-13 and U13 boys teams had a strong showing in the 2026 Alaska State Soccer Tournament on August 6-9 in Fairbanks.
The JSC U13 fell in the semifinals of their two-bracket, eight-team tournament, despite never having played in a tournament together before.
JSC coaches Jamaal Bailey and Eli Wray noted that, “Despite finishing without a title, the boys are motivated to continue working hard and plan on coming back next year to make another meaningful impact on the tournament and Alaska youth soccer. These boys played their hearts out and left it all on the field. Not only did they make their families, coaches, and each other proud, they showed up and represented their community of Juneau to their fullest.”
Playing a round-robin format to open state action JSC soundly defeated opponents Alaska Rush Gold 5-0, Homer United Football Club 4-1 and Alaska Summit Rush 5-2 to earn the top seed from pool B.
Pool A teams included (in order of pool play finish) Cook Inlet Soccer Club Elite, Eclipse Soccer Club, Chugiak Soccer Club Avalanche, and Anchorage Youth Soccer Club Timbers.
JSC fell to Pool A’s Eclipse Soccer Club 3-1 in the semifinals and Pool A’s Cook Inlet Soccer Club defeated Alaska Rush in the other semifinal 3-1. Eclipse — the home team from Fairbanks — won the state title over CIC 3-2.
Also in the State Cup, the JSC Rush U16 boys placed third in their five-team bracket. They fell to Chugiak Soccer Club 3-1, defeated Eclipse SC 3-0, tied Cook Inlet SC Elite 2-2 and tied Alaska Rush Gold 1-1. In the championship match Chugiak defeated Eclipse 1-1 (4 to 3 penalty shootout).
“This U16 team was put together after the high school season, including three U15 and one U14 player,” JSC coach Moctar Diouf said. “After losing the first game, they rebounded strongly with a 3-0 win followed with two ties. We created a ton of chances. Finishing them, though, was our biggest hurdle. Although we missed playing in the championship match by one point, we are very proud of how the boys played!”

Mason Arsua, Jackson Bass, Emmett Boucher, Kai Fisher (U12), Landon Gamulo, Kane Harris, Milo Johnson (U12), Otto Klein (U12), Soren Leahu, Cannon Mothershead (U12), Memphis Perez, Sebastian Roemer, Lincoln Severance, Irvin Vera Lopez and Colt Winkelman.
The JSC U16 roster:
Karter Barzee, Kolton Barzee (U14), Momar Diouf (U15), Elijah Edgar, Karter Elhers, Andrew Erickson (U15), Fernando Garcia (U15), Yoa George, Andrew Koverdan, Max Montalbo, Avery Nichols, Kasen Richmond, Oliver Rogers, Tanner Schultz, Imanol Vera Alvarado.
