A big thank you to Eaglecrest staff and the many volunteers who made this year’s Discover Eaglecrest Day such a great success. Hundreds of Juneauites enjoyed a sun-drenched day of music, food, and enthusiasm for the special place we call Eaglecrest. Among the groups participating in the event were SAIL/ORCA, SEADOGS, Juneau Mountain Rescue, Juneau Nordic Ski Club, Alaska Powder Descents, Coastal Alaska Avalanche Center, Alaska Cycle Bike Rentals, iRide Alaska (segway tours), Eaglecrest Ski Patrol, and CBJ Parks & Rec. Forbidden Peaks Brewery crafted a special Eaglecrest 50th anniversary lager, donating sale proceeds to Eaglecrest Foundation. A silent auction of historical Eaglecrest paraphernalia and donated items raised funds to support Eaglecrest’s youth programs. Businesses that generously donated items for the auction included Alpine Hut, Alaska Brewing Co., Devil’s Club Brewing Co., Gastineau Guiding, Il Forno, Spice and V’s Cellar Door.
This year’s Discover Eaglecrest Day was a reminder of just how important the community-owned ski area is to Juneau. It was also a great way to kick off the celebration of Eaglecrest’s 50th anniversary. On Jan. 16, 1976, Juneau Mayor Ginny Kline cut the ribbon officially opening Eaglecrest Ski Area. It marked a new chapter in a remarkable story of community support for winter sports in Juneau. Juneau is so fortunate to have a place like Eaglecrest, where thousands of our friends and neighbors from four to 84 years young enjoy affordable skiing and boarding. Eaglecrest is why a big segment of our community makes Juneau a year-round home. Thank you again to all of Eaglecrest’s many supporters — past, present and future.
