Crimson Bears battle through 2025 Spiketacular

The Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé Crimson Bears volleyball team had an uncomfortable road trip to Anchorage last week as they took to the court in a field of 21 schools at the 2025 West Anchorage Spiketacular.


The field was divided into three pools of seven teams to play six game apiece in round-robin format Friday through Saturday morning. Pool play records would seed teams in one of three bracket tournaments: Gold, Silver or Bronze.


South Anchorage won the Gold Bracket with wins over West Anchorage Kenai Central and Dimond. Final Gold standings: 1. South; 2. Dimond, 3. Tie - Colony, Kenai; 5. Tie - Soldotna, Eagle River, West, Service.

 East Anchorage won the Silver Bracket with wins over Lathrop, Utqiagvik and Wasilla. Final Silver standings: 1. East; 2. Wasilla; 3. Tie - Nikiski, Utqiagvik; 5. Tie - Grace Christian, Palmer, Seward, Lathrop.


JDHS went 0-12 in pool play and were assigned the Bronze Bracket where they opened with a 2-1 loss to Nome and played through the consolation portion with a 2-1 win over Kodiak and a 2-1 win over West Valley.


Nome won the Bronze Bracket with wins over JDHS and Bartlett. Final Bronze standings 1. Nome; 2. Bartlett; 3. Tie - West Valley, JDHS; 5. Kodiak.
