Two Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé Crimson Bears underclassmen gave the highest honor to their graduating seniors on Friday night at the Adair-Kennedy Memorial Park pitch in a 1-0 win over the visiting South Anchorage Wolverines.
JDHS junior Maddox Carroll earned a free kick from 15 yards in front of the South net and put in a crafty shot that skipped past defenders for the 1-0 margin with 17 minutes left to play in the first half.
That score would hold as the Crimson Bears withstood South corner kicks and countered runs by the Wolverines with neither side holding the margin of possession.
Crimson Bears sophomore Callan Walker faced a penalty kick halfway through the second half and smothered a shot by South senior Owen Brown.
Seniors Noah Ault, Jesper Bennetsen, Kevin Flores-Lopez, Clive Mateo, Emmet Mesdag, John Melancon, Kaiden Odenheimer, Elias Schane, Elliot Welch, and exchange students Gabriele Scodino and Tullitsiaq Reimer were honored before the game.
Junior Sam Mazon took three shots with two on goal, Carroll two with both on goal, freshman Andrew Koverdan, sophomore Bryce Haygood, Welch, Flores-Lopez and Ault one shot, and freshman Karter Barzee one shot on goal.

Welch, Bennetsen and Walker played 80 minutes each.
Walker had the PK save and 10 saves on South shots on goal. Bennetsen had six steals, Welch four, Mesdag and freshman Andrew Koverdan three apiece. Odenheimer, juniors Ethan Van Kirk and Erik Thompson and sophomore Bryce Haygood two steals each, junior Ibrahima Diouf one. Haygood took four corner kicks, Carroll and junior Sam Mazon one apiece.
Ault and Mazon played 60 minutes, freshman Imanol Vera 55, Odeheimer, freshman Karter Barzee, Flores-Lopez, Carroll and sophomore Troy Edgar 40 each, Haygood 35, freshman Elijah Edgar, Mesdag, Thompson, Van Kirk and Koverdan 30 each, Diouf 25, freshman Tanner Schultz 20, Schane and Scodino 10 apiece, Mateo, Melancon and Reimer five each.
