Alaskans treasure autonomy and independence. It is part of our DNA, whether we have been here for thousands of years or we arrived last week.

I wonder what Alaskans think of a recent divulging of their confidential information by the State of Alaska. On Tuesday, December 23, 2025, Lt. Gov. Nancy Dahlstrom, who oversees the Alaska Division of Elections, turned over voter information to Trump’s Department of Justice.

Our information. Our voter information. This is NOT her voter information. It belongs to the people of the State of Alaska who trust the Division of Elections to keep it confidential. Did you give permission for your data to be given to the federal government? I didn’t. I suspect, if asked, most Alaskans would say no.

I am flabbergasted by the sheer audacity of the Dunleavy administration in sharing the private information of every single voter in Alaska. According to the Juneau Independent, that means “full names, birthdates, residential addresses, and driver’s license or last four digits of social security numbers.”

But apparently, also according to the Juneau Independent, state law allows the lieutenant governor to “provide confidential voter information to a federal agency, if that agency only uses it for government purposes authorized by law.”

Government purposes authorized by law? The Trump administration is the most lawless and corrupt federal administration in our country’s history. Every single day the Trump administration breaks laws.

An August report by the ranking member of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, U.S. Senator Gary Peters, documents that:

“Since taking office, President Trump and his Administration have usurped key congressional powers – freezing federal funds authorized by Congress AND dismantling federal agencies created by Congress. He has also unlawfully removed Inspectors General tasked with conducting independent and nonpartisan oversight.

Not only does the Trump Administration’s seizure of Congressional powers directly threaten foundational principles of our government, its actions carry far-reaching consequences on our national security, health security, and emergency preparedness.”

What do you think the Trump Administration wants to do with the private and confidential voter data of every single Alaskan?

It should be noted that, according to the Alaska Independent, most states refused to share confidential voter data. Alaska did not. This goes beyond shameful.
