Super PACs explode

Why is it that Super PACs (political action committees) have infused an absurd amount of money into the primary propping up unknown candidates and making Mary Peltola look bad?

Fair Deal Alaska, Right for Alaska, Americans for Prosperity Action, and Last Frontier PAC have put in millions to discredit Peltola — the majority of which came in just after the FEC (Federal Election Commission) filing deadline.

Deb Otis, the senior director of research and policy at FairVote, a nonprofit that advocates for ranked-choice voting and proportional representation, said in a recent Alaska Beacon article “People are kind of trying to pull the wool over (your) eyes.” These groups are “pretty sophisticated” and can sway even the savvy voter.

So keep a skeptical attitude when you peruse the flyers gracing your mailbox these days. Go directly to the candidates' websites to see what they stand for, their voting records and what policies they propose, then use your critical thinking skills and conscience to decide who to vote for. I’m supporting Mary Peltola, Bill Hill and Tom Begich as their policies best align with my values.
