The plethora of political ads
Aw, it’s election time again, my least favorite season of all…
I am writing this letter to express my disgust at the bombardment of political ads, specifically those on TV, that are aired multiple times each hour. Every hour. 24 hours a day. For months on end. Months prior to the primary and continuing on until the general election.
You tune into your favorite show, an hour-long episode, and during that time, you are exposed to ads from the various candidates at least a half dozen times. Really? Once or twice gets the message across.
In my humble opinion, I think it shows a lack of respect for the electorate. Do the candidates really think that we need their ads to be pounded into our heads? When we’ve heard them once, maybe twice, do they not realize that we mute them when they come on? Add to that the insults they throw at each other rather than making clear what they each want to do about the issues that are important to the voters and to them. It also is a colossal waste of money. The millions spent on these annoying ads could do so much good.
Please, show some respect and tone it down, give us a break. At least we can recycle the flyers that arrive by mail.
