A winter storm warning, with six to 12 inches of snow expected in Juneau, has been issued between 6 a.m. Saturday and noon Sunday by the National Weather Service Juneau.
Snow, which has been falling much of this week, is expected to begin again Friday evening and continue after this weekend’s storm period ends, according to a forecast issued at about 6 p.m.
"Snow showers lingering for some locations through Friday night will give way to heavier snow on Saturday as another system sweeps in," a post at the weather service’s Facebook page notes. "The heaviest snow will arrive Saturday afternoon. Winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories have been posted for much of the area from the Icy Strait Corridor southward."
"And more snow is on the way beyond then. Confidence is growing that parts of the area will receive another round of accumulating snow on Sunday, with still another system potentially arriving on Tuesday."
High temperatures of about 30 degrees and lows in the mid 20s are forecast during the weekend, with winds of about 10 miles per hour.
The extended forecast calls for warming temperatures toward the end of next week, causing snowfall to turn to rain.
