Woman extracted from vehicle after collision with FedEx truck on Glacier Highway

Rescuers used hydraulic equipment to remove a woman from a Jeep that sustained significant damage in a collision Wednesday morning with a FedEx Truck on Glacier Highway, according to the Juneau Police Department.

JPD received numerous 911 calls about the collision at about 7:47 a.m. at the intersection of Glacier Highway and Davis Avenue in Lemon Creek, a press release issued by the department Friday states.

"The investigation determined that the FedEx truck was traveling on Glacier Highway toward Davis Avenue when it entered the intersection against a steady red traffic signal and struck the side of the Jeep," the release notes.

Capital City Fire/Rescuer responders removed the 52-year-old woman driving the Jeep from that vehicle. She reported lower back pain and was taken to Bartlett Regional Hospital for evaluation.

The 33-year-old male driving the FedEx truck reported minor chest pain, but declined treatment, according to JPD. He was cited for failing to stop at a steady red traffic signal.

The Jeep was impounded for safekeeping, and the FedEx truck privately towed from the scene.
