Airport seeks public comment on renewal of passenger charge

Juneau International Airport is seeking public comment on a proposed Passenger Facility Charge of $4.50 per eligible enplaned passenger that is proposed to take effect Nov. 1, 2026, and expire Aug. 31, 2035. Comments must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 26 via email to angelica.lopez-campos@jnuairport.com or by mail. Comments submitted by mail must be postmarked Aug. 26, 2026, or earlier and addressed to:

The $4.50 Passenger Facility Charge was first approved on July 1, 1998, and has continued at Juneau International Airport since then without interruption. The proposed charge would continue to allow airlines operating out of the airport to collect $4.50 per outgoing passenger for each flight leg purchased. The income, which would total $6,805,176 in the proposed time period, would be used by the airport to help fund upcoming, proposed eligible Capital Improvement Projects. Airport projects supported through this charge include acquiring a new Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting vehicle, repairing an uneven portion of the runway shoulder, and constructing an ADA-accessible elevator in the airport’s departure lounge. Find the full list of the 19 projects supported by this charge in the Airport Board’s April 9 meeting agenda packet. 

Application of the proposed Passenger Facility Charge was recommended by the Airport Operations Committee on April 2, 2026, and approved by the Airport Board on April 9, 2026, following public meetings. This public notice provides other interested parties an opportunity to comment before Notice of Intent is submitted to the Federal Aviation Administration.
