Another deluge of rain is expected to saturate Juneau and most of Southeast Alaska starting Thursday night, with a flood warning in effect from 10 p.m. Thursday until 10 p.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service Juneau.

Two storm fronts arriving about a day apart are expected to result in one to two inches of rain in Juneau on Friday and Saturday, respectively. They follow a storm that arrived Tuesday night that forced cruise ships to alter schedules, knocked out power citywide at midday Wednesday and triggered a landslide that forced the evacuation of an apartment building Wednesday night.

An alert issued by the weather service is predicting at least three to four inches of rain for nearly all of Southeast Alaska, with up to eight inches possible in southern portions of the Panhandle such as Ketchikan. Winds are expected to be less severe than the midweek storm — which topped 60 miles per hour in Juneau — said Erin Brunsen, meteorologist at the station.

"For the outer coast tonight into tomorrow morning we could see some gales, but not anywhere for land areas," she said Thursday evening. "For land areas where we're kind of looking at is winds around 15 to 20 miles per hour and then with gusts in the southern Panhandle up to 35 to 40 miles per hour."

The flood alert will also be in effect while NBC Sports is filming Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé’s football game against Dimond High School at 3 p.m. Saturday as part of a documentary scheduled to air as part of next year’s Super Bowl coverage. JDHS officials are trying to lure a big crowd — and Brunsen said the weather may be at least a little cooperative.

"It does look like at that time rain is going to be diminishing," she said. "We’ll still have some times with moderate to heavy rain, but we will have some diminishing trends in the rain at that time, not being as heavy as what it might be overnight Friday into Saturday."
