(City and Borough of Juneau press release)

The pedestrian bridge and stairs over Calhoun Avenue in Downtown Juneau are now closed following a recent inspection by bridge engineers at the Alaska Department of Transportation. The bridge was built in 1977 and has been determined to have exceeded its useful life. Access to the bridge is closed for safety. Future demolition or replacement decisions are yet to be determined.

Closure signage and barriers were installed Friday, Oct. 9, by the City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ). The public is asked to abide by all posted signage and use an alternative pedestrian route for access to and from Dixon Street.

For questions about the pedestrian bridge, contact CBJ Chief CIP Engineer John Bohan at john.bohan@juneau.gov.
