JDHS harriers run at Ketchikan

Kayhi, Sitka, Wrangell control the ‘First City’ trails

Dubbed “Alaska’s First City” as it is the first port of entry for travelers by ferry or plane, Ketchikan hosted some of Southeast’s top harriers Saturday and the Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé Crimson Bears found themselves among a talented field of runners.


The Wrangell Wolves swept the Kayhi Invitational individual races with senior Boomchain Loucks hitting 16:16 for the boys and freshman Jenna Meissner 20:51 for the girls. The Kayhi Kings boys and Sitka Wolves girls topped the team standings while JDHS placed eighth and fifth, respectively, in the team scoring.


JDHS sophomore Sigrid Eller placed seventh in the girls' race in 21 minutes 41 seconds. Rounding out the top 15 girls after Meissner were WRG junior Bella Ritchie with 20:55, Petersburg sophomore Arielle Tucker 21:03, WRG junior Alana Harrison 21:22, KTN junior Ryan Elderding 21:28, SIT freshman Lola Hitchcock 21:37, Eller, SIT senior Natalie Hall 22:00, SIT senior Jadelynn Kubik 22:33, PSG junior Maria Toth 22:35, PSG senior Gabrielle Whitacre 22:39, PSG sophomore Cadence Flint 22:50, SIT senior Marina Marley 23:01, KTN junior Sarah Kleeman 23:05 and SIT freshman Grace Hall 23:22. 


Rounding out the Crimson Bears girls were freshman Des Bos 20th in 23:58, senior Melanie Schrader 28th in 25:46, senior Koby Yturbe 39th in 26:47, senior Piper Blackgoat Diehl 40th in 26:48, sophomore Leighton Zararzua 41st in 27:02, senior Miranda Stichert 44th in 27:30, junior Lumi Fermin 47th in 27:44, senior Sloan Christensen 49th in 28:06, junior Jillian Levy 52nd in 28:33, freshman Eleanor Peterson 53rd in 28:43, sophomore Elyzsa Sapinoso 54th in 29:40, junior Raegan Adams 58th in 31:49.

Girls team scores were SIT 51, PSG 53, WRG 67, KTN 93, JDHS 125, Craig 134, Mt. Edgecumbe 135. 


Top JDHS boy was junior Daniel Degener with 19:08. The top 15 boys were Loucks, CRG junior Aulis Nelson 16:59, SIT junior Derek Wilson 17:02, KTN senior Carter Phillips 17:38, KTN junior Henry Vail 17:47, PSG senior Gaje Ventress 17:52, PSG senior Nathan Kerr 18:12, SIT freshman Owen Mork 18:17, Skagway sophomore Logan Rupprecht 18:18, PSG senior Alex Holmgrain 18:21, KTN junior Noah Robbins 18:30, WRG junior Jackson Carney 18:36, KTN sophomore Ezra Roskam 18:39.33, KTN junior Richard Evison 18:39.62 and KTN senior Scott Johnson 18:53.


Rounding out the JDHS boys were sophomore Finnan Kelly 36th in 20:01, sophomore Lucas Nelson-Vallejo 41st in 20:13, sophomore Caleb Schane 46th in 20:28, sophomore Frisco McGuire 52nd in 20:51, freshman Brooks Pinney 58th in 21:09, junior Bryden Roberts 61st in 21:13, sophomore Lucas Wyatt 68th in 21:53, freshman Tymur Tkachenko 69th in 21:53, freshman Ben Blackgoat 77th in 22:58 and junior Tullitsiaq Reimer 84th in 24:36.


Boys' team scores were KTN 47, PSG 65, SIT 66, WRG 86, SKG 140, MEHS 171, CRG 180, JDHS 187 and Metlakatla 281.


JDHS also ran a time trial meet among runners that did not travel. Results were not available at press time.
