Pharoah Akhenaten, 45, was indicted for attempted murder of a woman he allegedly fired a gun at by a Juneau jury last Thursday.
He was also indicted for kidnapping, multiple counts of assault and multiple counts of misconduct involving weapons in the third degree, and one count of failure to stop at the direction of a peace officer, according to a state press release.
“These charges are only allegations and are not evidence of guilt,” the Alaska Department of Law press release states. “The defendants are presumed innocent and are entitled to a fair trial at which the prosecution must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.”
If convicted, Akhenaten could face up to 99 years in prison.
He is currently in the custody of the Department of Corrections, with bail set at $50,000 cash performance, $50,000 cash appearance and a court-approved third-party custodian.
The indictment is for conduct that began in January and ended on April 27 of this year, including multiple incidents of domestic violence, according to court records.
Akhenaten was arrested by the Juneau Police Department last month after a month-long investigation that ended in a brief police chase and standoff.
He was arraigned in Superior Court at Juneau's Dimond Courthouse on Wednesday afternoon, where his attorney pleaded not guilty on his behalf.
Akhenaten's readiness hearing is scheduled for July 8 at 8:30 a.m. He also has a pretrial conference scheduled for July 13 at 2:30 p.m for another case, where he faces charges for failure to stop at the direction of a peace officer and driving without a license.
