The Southeast Alaska Cities Against Drugs task force seized narcotics with a combined estimated value of about $111,000 this week during an investigation in Juneau.
Juneau resident Joshua R. Riley, 50, was arrested and taken to Lemon Creek Correctional Center on federal charges of attempted possession with intent to deliver and conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, according to a Juneau Police Department press release on Wednesday.
The regional task force, SEACAD, identified a suspicious package being shipped to Juneau on Sunday, which was determined to contain approximately 219 grams of fentanyl.
On Monday, the package was delivered to Riley. He took the package to his downtown business, All-Star Auto, in the 900 block of West 10th Street. Riley is listed as the business's registered agent, but the State of Alaska business license directory shows the status as involuntarily dissolved.
SEACAD followed Riley. After he opened the package, officers contacted him and conducted a search warrant of the automotive repair shop.
During the investigation, SEACAD seized approximately 219 grams of fentanyl. Additional controlled substances were seized, including 10.12 grams of heroin, 8.2 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, 4.89 grams of methamphetamine, and 0.66 grams of fentanyl in a separate package. Officers also seized a digital scale consistent with drug distribution activity. Riley was previously sentenced for his role in a drug trafficking conspiracy on May 31, 2013. He received a 30-month federal prison sentence, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Alaska.
On Wednesday, the auto shop was closed during regular business hours, with at least one person attempting to retrieve their vehicle.
