This calendar guide will be updated as the session progresses.
It's time for the House's electronic chimes and the bright ring of the Senate's glockenspiel, the signal for every reporter in the Capitol's press room to jump into action.
The second regular session began Jan. 20. The Senate and House gaveled in at 1 p.m. The legislature is expected to convene at the capital each year on the third Tuesday in January at 1 p.m. The first regular session was held from Jan. 21, 2025, to May 20, 2025. The first special session of the 34th Alaska Legislature took place in August 2025.
The Constitution of the State of Alaska requires that the Alaska Legislature adjourn 120 days after the day the Legislature convenes (the constitutional 121-day session limit — May 20, 2026) unless extended for up to 10 days by a two-thirds vote of each house. By law, the Legislature must adjourn within 90 days of convening (the statutory 90-day session limit — April 20, 2026).
The deadline to request new bills for prefile was Dec. 31, 2025. The first pre-filed bills were released Jan. 9 and can be found here. The second round of pre-filed bills was released on Jan. 16 and can be found here. Prefiled bills are submitted to each house for formal introduction and first reading at the commencement of the first regular session day when the house is organized to the point where it has committees to receive bills, or on the first day of the second regular session. Prefiled bills are read and referred to a committee in advance of other bills.
The governor's appointments to Alaska's boards and commissions are due to the Legislature by the 15th legislative day, Feb. 3.
Disclosure reporting dates: Disclosures are due within 30 days of a matter, interest or association, annually within the first 30 days of the session, or 90 days after final day of service. There are also various deadlines for committee announcements, with committee aids expected to deliver written notice of the time, place and subject of all standing, special and joint committee meetings to the Senate Secretary's office.
The personal bill deadline is Feb. 23. No bill or resolution other than one sponsored by a standing committee may be introduced after this thirty-fifth day of the second regular session of the Legislature, according to uniform rule 44.
The online 2026 session calendar can be found here.
The floor calendar is available online, as is a daily schedule.
This calendar information was sourced from the Senate Secretary's Office.
