Memorial Day in Juneau will feature three traditional ceremonies

Three traditional ceremonies by veterans groups are scheduled beginning at 11 a.m. in Juneau on Monday.


The Veterans of Foreign Wars Taku Post 5559 will host a memorial in the veterans section of Evergreen Cemetery downtown with Coast Guard Arctic District Cmdr. Admiral R. Little as the keynote speaker.


Southeast Alaska Native Veterans will be hosting a Memorial Day ceremony and luncheon at Elizabeth Peratrovich Hall. The event will include an address from Brigadier General Matthew Komatsu, the Yaaw Tei Yi Dance Group, veteran informational tables, food by Smokehouse Catering and a veterans group photo.


American Legion Auke Bay Alaska Post 25 will host a memorial at Alaska Memorial Park in the Mendenhall Valley with Juneau Port Director Carl Uchytil as the keynote speaker and comments from representatives of Alaska’s congressional delegation. An open house will follow at 11:30 a.m. with hot dogs and other food at Auke Bay Post 25 at 12480 Glacier Highway.
