SE community workshops set for Tongass forest plan revision

The U.S. Forest Service will be holding in-person, community workshops throughout Southeast Alaska starting in Haines and Skagway at the end of March. These workshops are an opportunity to provide feedback on preliminary draft plan materials currently in development for the Tongass National Forest. 

A Juneau workshop is scheduled from 5-7 p.m. April 15 at the Juneau Ranger District office at 8510 Mendenhall Loop Road.

 “This is the public’s next opportunity to help us focus forest management where it matters most — whether that’s recreation, tourism, fisheries, community resilience, or forest products,” said Tongass National Forest Supervisor Monique Nelson. “It’s about building a plan that’s strategic, sustainable, and practical — one that enables management while protecting what people value.” 

The dates, locations and times of the workshops are listed on the Forest Service’s Plan Revision Website under In-Person Engagement Opportunities.  Any “TBDs” will be updated as that information becomes available.    

Each workshop will start with a brief presentation from the Revision Team, followed by an informal session where attendees can share feedback independently. 

People unable to attend a community workshop can still provide feedback online using materials posting on the website later this month.  There will be an additional public comment period once the draft plan and draft environmental impact statement are released later this year.
