Hi, it’s Fu Bao Hartle, I will have my third First Friday pop-up at Kindred Post this coming Friday, Nov. 7, 2025, from 4:30–7 p.m. I will feature my original Alaska photographs on note cards, prints, and 2026 calendars. Kindred Post is at 145 S Franklin Street.
I live in Juneau and take photographs while I adventure around Southeast Alaska with my parents. I like to take photos of Alaska scenery and wildlife. Taking photos has always been easier for me than other forms of art because of my disabilities. I started my business, with the help of my parents, in 2022. Photography is a fun way for me to make art and I want to show others that people with disabilities can make art and have their own business.
When I am taking photos, I look for landscapes and wildlife that are beautiful and intriguing. I like when there are some clouds in the sky because it makes the mountains stand out. I use a Leica camera, that a friend gave to me, to take many of my photographs. Many of my photos are taken while I am on boat so I have to think about things like standing as still as I can and steadying my feet so they are solid. I often lean on sturdy surfaces in the cockpit, so I am safe and to help keep the images from being fuzzy.
When the conditions are wet, I may take a break and put my camera in a waterproof bag or use my waterproof camera. I try to take a lot of photos when I am on a trip and often use up disks and batteries quickly so I need to make sure I have lots both of those and that the batteries are always being charged so I can continue to take photos. To ensure that I don’t lose my work the disks are loaded onto a computer to back them up.
I am thankful that Kindred Post is hosting me again for a pop-up. It is a unique gift shop that features products from local small businesses and artists. It is also a post office and a fun store with good vibes in downtown Juneau.
