Two men were arrested after police found several hundred grams of various drugs, nearly $70,000 in cash, handguns and other suspect items at a Lemon Creek home they were at Wednesday, according to court documents.
Micheal Courtney Wilbon, 34, and Quavone Cortanas Jenkins, 35, were each charged with multiple felonies after Southeast Alaska Cities Against Drugs Task Force officers served a search warrant at about 8:20 p.m. Wednesday at the home on Davis Avenue, according to a district court charging document.
Officers forced their way inside after nobody answered the door, with Wilbon then entering the living room and avoiding answering questions about whether another person was in the house, according to a police report referenced in the case documents. Jenkins then entered the living room and, as he was being handcuffed, investigators noted that his hands were covered in water.
"Upon entering the residence, investigators immediately noted that the only bathroom was completely flooded, with the toilet overflowing with water," the charging document notes. "Investigators noted clumps of a white substance suspended and at the bottom of the toilet in the water. The toilet was broken in multiple spots near the p-trap of the toilet by investigators, yielding 5 separate bags of white powder substance testing presumptively positive for fentanyl, weighing approximately 409 gross grams."
"Also in the bathroom was an orange prescription bottle containing numerous pills, weighing a gross amount of 28.72 gross grams, several of which were identified via Drugs.com as Oxycodone."
The officers found other suspected drugs in other parts of the apartment, including six baggies in a bedroom containing 196 gross grams of what presumptively tested positive for heroin, 135 gross grams of a "black tar substance" in a toolbox that similarly tested positive for heroin, and a gray zipper bag in a bedroom closet containing blue "M 30" pills weighing 185 gross grams, according to the charging document.
Officers found $50,000 in $100 bills in a backpack, plus $13,717 in currency in several locations in the living room. A loaded Glock handgun was found on top of a kitchen freezer, two unloaded handguns were found elsewhere, and officials also seized numerous paraphernalia items such as dime bags, a gold digital scale and funnels.
Wilbon and Jenkins are both charged with four counts of second-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance, three counts of second-degree misconduct involving weapons, and tampering with evidence. Each made a felony first appearance at Juneau’s Dimond Courthouse on Thursday and are scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 11 a.m. Oct. 9.
"Per the Alaska Public Safety Information Network, neither defendant has any prior convictions in Alaska, but both have history from out of state," the charging document notes.
