Wages are the key issue unresolved as firefighters face burnout, union representative says.

Alaska Republican U.S. Sens. Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan signed on to a letter with 10 other U.S. senators, calling on the U.S. Department of Education to reverse the decision to cut millions in congressionally approved grant funding for Native American-serving colleges and universities nationwide. 

Recently, current and former members of the Juneau Assembly have spoken out against the two “affordability” ballot measures on the October ballot. It’s no surprise — they helped shape the policies and priorities that paved the way for Juneau’s growing unaffordability.  

It started the way many community movements do — neighbors gathered around coffee, talking about rising bills, the kids who had left and not come back, and a growing sense that Juneau has become just too expensive for ordinary people to stay.

Propositions one and two tell you to vote to cut everyone's taxes because the City and Borough of Juneau has far too much money, and really should have less of it. But looking at the data I only see a city that is underfunded.
